Xinhua, February 11, 2015 Adjust font size:

Some 23 Taliban militants have been killed as Afghan army pressed ahead with offensives in restive provinces while four soldiers died in bomb attacks, the country's Defense Ministry said on Wednesday.

"Over the past 24 hours, up to 23 militants were killed, several injured and 11 others detained during Afghan National Army operations in nine provinces," the ministry said in a statement providing daily operational updates.

Four army troops lost their lives in separate roadside bomb attacks, according to the statement.

The army specialists recovered and neutralized 54 roadside planted bombs and landmines across the country over the same period, the statement added.

The Taliban insurgent group has yet to make comments.

Since Jan. 1 this year, Afghan security forces have assumed the full security charges from NATO and U.S. forces after the NATO-led troops switched from combat to support role. Endi
