Slovak foreign policy to focus more on security

Xinhua, February 10, 2015 Adjust font size:

Slovakia's foreign policy will be more focused on security, including energy security and the fight against terrorism, along with global stability and support of economic diplomacy, Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajcak told Parliament on Tuesday.

Lajcak stressed that Slovakia can't ignore the threat of terrorism, pointing to the recent terrorist attacks in Paris.

The country's foreign policy outline presented to Parliament displays the country's readiness to contribute towards activities of the international coalition fighting the Islamic State.

The minister said Slovak foreign policy also wants to continue to contribute towards foreign military missions.

When it comes to EU enlargement, Slovakia supports the integration ambitions of aspirants from the Western Balkans. At the same time, Lajcak stressed that there must be dialogues between Belgrade and Pristina.

Slovakia will support Turkey's accession to the EU if the country meets all necessary conditions.

Slovakia holds a similar view to NATO enlargement. When it comes to Montenegro, Slovakia will support an invitation for the country to join the alliance as early as in 2015. Endit
