Dutch prosecution appeals against acquittal of jihadists

Xinhua, February 10, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Dutch prosecutor's office on Monday appealed against the acquittal of two Dutch Jihad suspects.

Hakim B., 22, and Mohammed el A., 27, were arrested by German police in Kleve in August 2013 allegedly on their way to Syria with balaclavas, combat clothing, large amounts of cash, walkie-talkies and solar chargers in their car.

On Monday the court in Netherlands' Arnhem stated there was no evidence that they would go to Syria to fight and acquitted them. It said El A. was indeed on his way to Syria to establish himself and help his jihadist brother, but there was no hard evidence that he was involved in terrorism.

The prosecution did not agree with that and claimed El A. and B. wanted to travel to Syria to "commit a crime with terrorist intent." They demanded that both suspects be jailed for two years in prison for planning terrorist crimes. Endi
