Saudi Arabia to employ 10,000 Bangladeshis every month

Xinhua, February 10, 2015 Adjust font size:

Saudi Arabia has expressed its keenness to recruit more workers from Bangladesh in the coming months.

After meeting with the visiting 19-member Saudi team, led by Ahmed F Alfahaid, deputy minister for the Muslim Kingdom's Labour Ministry's International Affairs, Bangladeshi Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain told journalists here on Monday that some 10,000 Bangladeshis will get employment in Saudi Arabia every month.

The Middle Eastern Asian country will initially recruit maids, drivers and housekeepers from Bangladesh, he said. The meeting came about a week after the Riyadh withdrew its seven-year-embargo on recruiting Bangladeshi workers.

Alfahaid told reporters that the Saudi employers will bear the full migration cost of the workers.

Currently some 1.3 million Bangladeshis are living and working in the Saudi Arabia, he said and added that there are more opportunities for Bangladeshis to get fresh employment in Saudi Arabia. Endi
