The first Festival of Contemporary Chinese Cinema in Bulgaria was launched here on Friday.

During the week-long event, viewers will be able to watch nine award-winning contemporary Chinese movies with different genres and subject matters. The movies include Qing Hong, Kekexili: Mountain Patrol, and The World, which were directed by Wang Xiaoshuai, Lu Chuan and Jia Zhangke, respectively.

Addressing the event, Yin Yali, cultural counselor with the Chinese embassy in Bulgaria, said China is one of the main driving forces for the development of the global movie market.

Through these nine movies, viewers can learn more about the contemporary Chinese filmmaking, and the social values and the development of modern China, according to Yin.
