Zambia U-17 footballers have expressed confidence of winning the Africa Junior Championship which kicks off next Sunday in Niger, the Zambia Daily Mail reported on Friday.

The junior national soccer team will be making a maiden appearance at the continental showpiece with players bubbling with confidence.

"People should underrate use at their own peril because we are champions in our own way. No team will intimidate us because we know what we are going there for," goalkeeper Jackson Kakunta was quoted as saying by the paper.

Alfred Chirwa, a defender said the team was going to Niger to lift the cup while midfielder Edwin Chipile said while qualifying for the World Cup was key, lifting the cup will complete the team's success.

Zambia are drawn in Group A with Guinea, Nigeria and hosts Niger while Group B has Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Mali and South Africa.

The semifinalists will qualify for the World Junior Championship set for Chile in October this year. Endi
