United Nations's Under- Secretary-General for Political Affairs Jeffrey Feltman has said that the international community will not forgive those who threaten Burkina Faso's transition process.
"Those who threaten the transition should know that the international community is watching them and will hold them accountable," Feltman said Wednesday after a meeting in Ouagadougou with Burkina Faso's Transition President Michel Kafando.
"All transitions in the world are fragile and difficult. No transition has no challenges," he said.
The transition government was set up after the fall of President Blaise Compaore's administration in October 2014. Its main goal is to organize presidential and legislative elections in October 2015 and municipal elections in January 2016.
"I congratulated Kafando for his determination to organize elections within the time frame set in the transition charter," Feltman said.
Since its formation, the transition government led by a military leader has been confronted with multiple demands. Two ministers and several parastatal heads have been sacked due to demands by street protesters.
"It is essential that transition institutions continue to respect aspirations of Burkina Faso people by guaranteeing the rule of law and physical safety of all citizens," the UN official said. Endi
