Police seek suspects as 3 injured in N. Kenya attack

Xinhua, February 6, 2015 Adjust font size:

Kenyan police said Friday they have intensified manhunt for suspects who hurled grenades at a food kiosk in Kenya's northern border town, Mandera, wounding three people on Thursday night.

Mandera County Police Commander Job Boronjo said they believe the attackers are still holed up in the town.

"So far we have not arrested any suspect in connection to last night attack, but we have intensified the manhunt. We cordoned off the area immediately after the attack to make sure no one runs away and we shall catch up with the attackers," Boranjo said, adding that police officers who were on patrol around the scene did not see anyone running away after the attack.

The police commander said the injured were rushed to the hospital where they are recuperating, and investigations to establish the motive behind the attack was launched.

This is the first grenade attack this year in the volatile region which borders Somalia. It comes after 64 people were massacred in two attacks in the border town late last year. Endi
