Hong Kong MTR staff to begin trial of body cameras

Hong Kong metro operator MTR Corporation, to better protect passengers and staff in case of disputes, will equip some staff with body cameras as part of a trial scheme starting on Monday at Sheung Shui station, said company sources on Friday.

The testing period will last six months in the crowded commercial area, with some MTR inspectors donning body cameras, according to Allen Ding, the operation manager for the East Rail and Ma On Shan lines.

The plan was announced as MTR officials are panning out their crowd control plan for the Lunar New Year period.

Ding said all recorded materials will be handled under strict protocols referring to guidelines from the Privacy Commissioner and passengers will be informed before the cameras began recording. Endi
