Russia bans flights to Tripoli for safety reasons

Xinhua, February 4, 2015 Adjust font size:

Russia has banned its airlines from flying to the Libyan capital of Tripoli for safety reasons, Russia's civil aviation authority, Rosaviatsiya, said Wednesday.

"With regards to information from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) on the current safety risks for international flights by civilian aircraft within the flight information region of Tripoli due to armed conflicts in Libya, civil flights to that region, including transit ones, are banned," Rosaviatsiya said in a statement.

The agency did not specify how long the ban will last.

Currently, Russia's largest airlines do not have regular direct flights to Tripoli.
