Inspectors settle petition disputes

Xinhua, February 4, 2015 Adjust font size:

Inspections teams from ministerial departments have been sent around China to sort out conflicts between local powers and individual petitioners.

Inspections in January targeted 40 conflicts in rural areas in parts of Anhui, Fujian, Hunan and Shaanxi provinces and Chongqing Municipality, according to a statement released Wednesday by the State Bureau for Letters and Calls.

The conflicts mostly concerned allegations of improper land appropriation, demolition of houses without the owners' consent, unrealized compensation for damage to property or living difficulties.

Inspectors reviewed documents, visited sites and interviewed both the petitioners and officials involved.

Detailed reports on each petition showed that inspectors settled arguments on the basis of facts and figures collected during investigations. While confirming the legitimacy of government action in some cases, they urged officials involved in other cases to rectify their mistakes and focus more on the rights of the people, said the statement.

The inspections aimed for "full communication" with local people, ensuring openness and transparency and the publication of results. Endi
