Xinhua, February 4, 2015 Adjust font size:

Nearly a dozen people including 10 militants and an Afghan security personnel had been killed as clash erupted in Nazian district of Nangarhar province with Jalalabad city as its capital 120 km east of Kabul, spokesman for provincial government Ahmad Zia Abdulzai said Wednesday. "Units of Afghan national security forces launched cleanup operations in Nazian district last night and the operation concluded Wednesday afternoon during which 10 insurgents and an Afghan security personnel had been killed,"Abdulzai told reporters.

Two more Afghan security personnel sustained injuries, he admitted.

Meanwhile, Zabihullah Mujahid who claims to speak for the Taliban outfit in contact with media claimed shooting down a military chopper in Nazian district during fighting, a claim rebuffed by Abdulzai as baseless.

Abdulzai insisted that no helicopter was shot down in Nazian district and the Taliban militants after leaving 10 dead bodies behind fled the area. Endi
