Ireland's jobless rate edges lower to 10.5 pct in January

The number of Irish people signing on the Live Register fell by 3,600 in January to stand at 360,200 on a seasonally adjusted basis, according to official figures on Wednesday.

The Live Register in Ireland is used to provide a monthly series of the numbers of people registering for unemployment assistance.

The figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) showed the unemployment rate now stood at 10.5 percent, down from a peak of 15.1 percent in February 2012, representing 35 consecutive months of decrease in the Live Register.

But the current youth unemployment rate is still far too high. At present, the youth unemployment rate went down from 31 percent in 2012 at the height of the crisis to 21.6 percent at end of 2014. Endit
