Iceland sees increase of foreign visitor overnight stays last December

Iceland saw an increase of foreign tourists' overnight stays in hotels by 14 percent in December 2014, compared with the same period of 2013, figures showed on Wednesday.

According to statistics issued by the Statistics Iceland, the total overnight stays in hotels in Iceland rose to 133,300 in December 2014, from 117,099 in December 2013, increasing by 14 percent.

Meanwhile, the nights spent by foreign tourists accounted for 84 percent of the total overnight stays in December, increasing by 14 percent compared with the figure in December 2013. At the same time, the overnight stays of Icelanders increased by 12 percent.

The total number of overnight stays in 2014 was 2,307,314, increasing by 13 percent compared with that in 2013.

The nights spent by foreign tourists rose to 1,968,146 in 2014 from 1,709,124 nights of the previous year. Endit
