Unidentified gunmen attempt to bomb Sudan's embassy in Tripoli

Xinhua, February 4, 2015 Adjust font size:

Unidentified gunmen on Tuesday attempted to bomb Sudanese Embassy in Tripoli, local Sudanese media reported Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Sudan's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Abdalla Al-Kurdofani confirmed the attempted bombing on the Sudanese embassy in Libya.

"The attempt came in the middle of the recent security and political turmoil in Libya which exposes the diplomatic missions there to repeated attacks," Al-Kurdofani told Xinhua Wednesday.

He said Sudan's Embassy in Tripoli has resumed its normal activities after the grenade was aborted.

In the meantime, Sudan's local Ashrooq TV quoted Libyan diplomatic sources as saying that Sudanese Embassy in Tripoli was attacked by a locally-made TMT bomb early Tuesday.

According to the sources, the unidentified gunmen threw a grenade over the embassy's walls but it did not go off, noting that the explosives department at the Libyan Interior Ministry dissembled the bomb.

The Sudanese Foreign Ministry spokesman said a committee was immediately formed to investigate the incident.

In June last year, the Sudanese Embassy in Tripoli was attacked by unidentified gunmen which caused great damage on the premises of the embassy after the guards exchanged fire with the attackers. Endit
