"The Hobbit" leads China's box office for second week

Oscar-winning director Peter Jackson's "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies" topped China's box office for a second week, grossing 270 million yuan (about 43.1 million U.S. dollars).
The action-fantasy, which wraps up Jackson's six-film franchise that started with "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" in 2001, has made 589 million yuan since its debut on Jan. 23 in China.
Not far behind was domestic comedy "Running Man", which took in 237 million yuan in the week ending Feb. 1, China Film News reported Wednesday.
Third was "Boonie Bears: Mystical Winter," the latest release in a domestic animated franchise, which was opened on the same day as "Running Man", making 103.3 million yuan in the same week.
"Miss Granny," a co-production between China and the Republic of Korea (ROK), came in fourth grossing 33.8 million yuan for the week. The rom-com, which debuted on Jan. 8, has seen box office earnings of 360.7 million yuan.
Rounding out the top-five list was the latest installment of animated series "Pleasant Goat and the Big, Big Wolf", which has pulled in 26.7 million yuan since its debut on Jan. 31. Endi
