Poland expects EU to come up with more ambitious energy union

Xinhua, February 3, 2015 Adjust font size:

Polish Prime Minister Ewa Kopacz said on Monday that she expected the European Commission to come up with an ambitious plan concerning the establishment of so-called the EU Energy Union.

In her meeting with Vice-President of the European Commission, Marosz Szefczovicz, Kopacz emphasized the importance of sharing goals by the whole EU in case of the crises regarding energy imports as well as transparency of the EU energy market.

Szefczovicz agreed with the points made the Polish prime minister, stressing the need for all the EU members to "speak with one voice at international forum".

The Vice-President added that he would made public the specific plan of the Energy Union on February 25th.

Polish government suggested in spring 2014 that the EU Energy Union should rest on five pillars: security of supply based on mutual trust, competitive and complete internal EU energy market, decrease of the EU energy demand, decrease of demand for carbon, as well as extensive research and development of the energy sector.
