The United Nations said here Monday that the world body supports any efforts to seek a political solution to the Syrian crisis, which broke out in March 2011.
In response to questions about the Syria talks which took place in Moscow last week, Stephane Dujarric, the UN spokesman, said, " We are supportive of any attempt to find a political solution to the Syrian crisis, including, most recently, the talks in Moscow."
The talks were attended by a representative of the UN secretary- general's special envoy, Staffan de Mistura, Dujarric said at a daily news briefing here. "We remain in close contact with our Russian colleagues as their important efforts continue."
Representatives of the Syrian government and the opposition wrapped up four days of consultations in Moscow on Thursday with a general statement avoiding any of the difficult issues surrounding the Middle East country's nearly four-year civil war. They agreed to hold another round of talks in Moscow.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has noted the process of Syria's settlement would be "long and complex," saying that "No one has the illusions that solutions of all problems could be found during a few days." Endite
