Italian economy to start recovery in first months of 2015: statistics institute

Xinhua, January 31, 2015 Adjust font size:

Italy's economy will begin to recover in the first months of 2015, national statistics institute Istat estimated on Friday.

According to a report published on Istat's website, the anticipatory index of Italy's economy was positive in November for the first time since March 2014.

The positive index, Istat said, indicated "a recovery of economic activity in the first months of this year."

Also on Friday, Istat said unemployment rate in December dropped by 0.4 percent to 12.9 percent over November.

Youth unemployment rate, also in December, decreased by 1 percent to 42 percent compared to the previous month.

"Great. But we are just at the beginning. We will bring Italy back to growth," Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi said commenting on the Istat figures in his words posted on a social network.

The positive data came out as Italy is facing the election of the new head of State, considered as a key figure to the stability of the Renzi government and his reform program in the next months. Endit
