Xinhua, January 27, 2015 Adjust font size:

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Tuesday that he seeks to switch his country's political system from parliamentary to presidential.

He also said that Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and him are in an agreement over the transition.

"I always defended the presidential system throughout election campaigns," he said.

Also on Tuesday, Davutoglu said in a speech at a meeting of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) that "we are in full agreement with the president. We won't allow relations to sour."

In an interview with Turkish media Monday, AKP deputy Mehmet Ali Sahin said they do not want to lose any more time, adding that "we insist on the presidential system.

He also said the AKP intended to partner with other parties to seek required constitutional changes after the general elections in June. Endit
