Rockets fired from Syria hit Israel-annexed Golan Heights

Xinhua, January 27, 2015 Adjust font size:

At least two rockets fired from Syria landed in the Israel-annexed Golan Heights on Tuesday, triggering artillery fire by the Israeli army towards the apparent source of fire, a military spokesperson confirmed to Xinhua.

The spokesperson said troops are still scanning the area for more projectile hits. No damage or injuries were reported.

Israeli media reported that soldiers were evacuating tourists from the winter resort of Mount Hermon, as sirens were heard across the site.

Israeli security forces were on high alert along its northern borders over the past week, fearing possible retaliation by Hezbollah over an Israeli air strike last Sunday, in which some Hezbollah operatives, including a top commander and an Iranian General, were killed. Endit
