Xinhua, January 20, 2015 Adjust font size:

Nine civilians were killed while two others were wounded when a vehicle was hit by a roadside bomb in the eastern Ghazni province on Tuesday, a provincial official said.

"Nine innocent civilians, including a woman and a child, were dead and two others wounded after a mini-bus they were traveling in touched off an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Gilan District at around midday," deputy provincial governor Mohammad Ali Ahmadi told Xinhua.

The official blamed the Taliban insurgent group for planting the IED on a main road in the province with Ghazni as its capital, 125 km south of the Afghan capital.

The Taliban has largely been using homemade IEDs to launch suicide attacks and roadside bombings against security forces, which also cause civilian casualties.

Some 10,000 civilians were killed and wounded in Taliban-led insurgency and conflicts in the Central Asian country in 2014, according to UN officials.

They blamed the attacks of Taliban insurgents and other armed groups for most of the civilian deaths and injuries. Enditem
