Cambodia's Angkor site attracts 2.35 mln foreign tourists in 2014

Cambodia's Angkor Wat Temple, a world heritage site, received 2.35 million international tourists in 2014, up 5 percent year-on-year, according to an official statement released Tuesday.

The statement, issued by the Apsara National Authority, which is in charge of protection and management of the site, said the 12th century temple earned a gross revenue of 59.3 million U.S. dollars from ticket sales last year, up 3 percent year-on-year.

"The top three countries visiting the site are South Korea, China and Japan," Chhoeuy Chhorn, deputy director of Siem Reap provincial tourism department, told Xinhua.

He said some 348,000 South Koreans visited the temple last year, down 3 percent year-on-year, while 338,500 Chinese and 150,940 Japanese toured the site, up 25 percent and 0.2 percent respectively.

Angkor Wat Temple, inscribed on the UNESCO's World Heritage List in 1992, is the kingdom's largest tourist destination. It is located in Siem Reap province, some 315 km northwest of capital Phnom Penh.

An entrance fee to the site is 20 U.S. dollars a day for a foreigner, 40 U.S. dollars for a three-day visit and 60 U.S. dollars for a week-long visit. Endi
