Czech gov't approves investment at Prague airport for better security

Xinhua, January 20, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Czech government on Monday approved the acquisition of a new security system for the Vaclav Havel Airport in Prague including a device that automatically recognizes passengers' faces.

Czech Finance Minister Andrej Babis said the investment for the project would be 187 million crowns (about 7.8 million U.S. dollars).

The costs will be covered by three government departments, namely the Interior Ministry, the Security Information Service and the Finance Ministry.

A Czech government report said the current system providing for passenger security and protection of property at the airport has become obsolete and insufficient in the face of new trends and threats of international terrorism.

The new security system for Prague airport is to be put into operation by the end of 2016. After that, other Czech cities that have international airports such as Brno and Karlovy Vary will start modernizing their security systems. Endit
