At least six people were killed and four others injured when a U.S. drone pounded a hideout of suspected militants in Pakistan's northwest tribal area of North Waziristan on Monday morning, local media reported.

Express TV said that the drone fired two missiles at the militants' hideout located in Shawal area of North Waziristan, a restive tribal area at Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

The strike completely destroyed the hideout burying 10 people under the rubbles, said the report, adding that the local people later retrieved six bodies and four injured people from the debris.

Identities of the killed and injured people have not been revealed yet.

The drones kept on hovering over the space for some time after the attack, creating panic among the residents.

Monday morning's strike is the third of its kind in the country 's tribal area since the beginning of this year.

To date at least 23 people have been killed and several others injured in such strikes in the country.

The attack came at a time when Pakistani army is engaged in an extensive operation against the militants in North Waziristan, an area believed to be a strong hold of local and foreign militants.

Over 2000 militants have been killed and several others injured in the operation "Zarb-e-Azb" which was kicked off on June 15 last year, according to Asim Saeed Bajwa, the Director General Inter- Services Public Relations, the mouthpiece of Pakistani army. Endi
