Tokyo stocks rise 0.89 pct on Wall St. gains

Tokyo stocks rose 0.89 percent Monday as market sentiment was lifted by the gains on Wall Street.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was up 150.13 points, from Friday at 17,014.29.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange climbed 8.68 points, or 0.64 percent, higher at 1,372.41.

Industry sectors with major gains included mining, nonferrous metal, as well as glass and ceramics.

The turnover was 1,927.8 billion yen (about 16.47 billion U.S. dollars). Endi
