No. 5 seed Ivanovic crashes out of Australian Open

Xinhua, January 19, 2015 Adjust font size:

Fifth seed Ana Ivanovic was beaten in three sets by Czech qualifier Lucie Hradecka and crashed out of the Australian Open at the first round on Monday.

The Serb blew a strong lead to lose 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 in front of her stunned supporters at Rod Laver Arena.

The 27-year-old got an easy victory in the first set but she lost in the second set after Hradecka broke her three times in the process.

In the deciding set, Hradecka remained dominant and terminated Ivanovic's campaign by making her blast the ball into the net.

It was the first major upset of this year's tournament. It may shock the Serb fans and disturb the 2008 French Open champion's plan to rebuild a career.

Hradecka won a doubles silver medal at the 2012 London Olympics and has three Grand Slam doubles titles. She was defeated by Ivanovic in the first round of Wimbledon Open in 2009. Endi
