Flights in Dublin airport diverted due to stormy weather

Xinhua, January 16, 2015 Adjust font size:

A number of flights were diverted to other airports as strong winds hit the country on Thursday afternoon.

The Dublin airport advised passengers to consult their airline's website for the latest flight updates before coming to the airport.

Meanwhile, about 6,500 homes and businesses were without power supply due to stormy weather, according to ESB Networks, Ireland's electricity distribution company.

A storm swept in from the Atlantic on Wednesday evening, bringing torrential rain and winds of up to 150km/h to the west of the country, according to Met Eireann, Ireland's national weather service.

A number of schools across the country were closed on Thursday as a result of the bad weather.

Ireland's telecom firm Eircom said about 10,000 customers across the country are without fixed line phone and broadband services.

But Met Eireann said the strong and gust westerly winds will ease later Thursday evening and the showers will become less frequent. Endit
