India detains 2 Russian women for illegally filming in Modi's parliamentary constituency

Xinhua, January 13, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Indian authorities have detained two Russian women for illegally filming the riverfront in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's parliamentary constituency of Varanasi in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, a senior police officer said Tuesday.

"The two women, identified as Alexandra and Marie, were detained Monday for filming the riverfront without proper permission. They are being questioned by police and intelligence sleuths, and so far they have claimed to be professional photographers," the officer said on condition of anonymity.

They came to India on Jan. 8 for a 20-day tour of this country, he said, adding the women have not been arrested, but detained for interrogation.

"We are probing all angles," the officer said. Endi
