7 security personnel killed in check post attack in SW Pakistan

Xinhua, January 12, 2015 Adjust font size:

At least seven security personnel were killed on Monday morning in a terrorist attack at a security check post in Pakistan's southwestern Balochistan province, local media reported.

The incident took place when 40-50 militants attacked a check post of Frontier Corps (FC) in the Mekhtar area of Loralai district.

The militants fired rockets and bullets with automatic guns at the check post and killed seven FC personnel.

Security personnel retaliated to the assault and wounded many of the assailants who were taken back by their companions.

The attackers managed to run away to an unknown location after the attack.

Additional contingents of security personnel rushed to the site and shifted the bodies to the hospital.

Security forces have cordoned off the area and are using helicopters to track the militants down.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet. However, it was reported the attackers might be Baloch separatist rebels who have been fighting against the forces for years.

The attack reportedly might be the reaction to an operation by the security forces in the area last week when they arrested some high-profile militant commanders. Endi
