Australian job ads rise seven months in a row: report

Xinhua, January 12, 2015 Adjust font size:

Job advertisements in Australia kept rising for seventh months in a row to 1.8 percent in December, according to a new survey released on Monday.

Although the ANZ Bank Job Ads survey said that job ads had risen 11.4 percent for the year 2014, experts said the rise in unemployment was still a concern.

ANZ chief economist Warren Hogan said new job opportunities did not match the large number of new entrants - university students and final school leavers - joining the workforce.

"The improving trend in job ads appears to be at odds with the official employment data which continues to depict a rising unemployment rate," he said in a statement.

"In all likelihood, this divergence can be explained by a higher than usual rate of job losses in the economy.

"The good news is that the economy continues to produce new employment opportunities. The bad news is that this has not been quite enough to counteract the flow of new workers into the economy plus the on-going loss of jobs in certain sectors." Endi
