The new director of the Portuguese Immigration and Borders Service (SEF), Judge Antonio Carlos de Beca Pereira, was sworn in to office on Friday at a ceremony in the Portuguese Internal Administration Ministry, the ministry said in a statement.
His predecessor, Manuel Jarmela Palos handed in his resignation in November last year following his arrest on charges of corruption, money laundering, and maladministration in the so-called golden visa scheme.
News of the golden visa scheme also led to the resignation of Internal Administration Minister Miguel Macedo, who was replaced by current minister Anabela Rodrigues just days later. Endit
