Breast cancer is now the most common cancer in Chinese women, medical experts from Shanghai Cancer Hospital of Fudan University told an annual Pink Ribbon campaign today.

They said China accounts for 12.2 percent of the world's newly diagnosed breast cancer cases every year. The country also accounts for 9.6 percent of all deaths from the disease each year around the world.

A concert was held in Shanghai yesterday for this year's Pink Ribbon event in China. Famous singers, breast cancer patients, medical professionals and local residents participated to raise awareness about the disease.

The hospital's doctor Wu Ling said a healthy lifestyle, regular hospital checks and early treatment are important factors in breast cancer prevention and control.
