Lianghui, or the two meetings, by far the most significant political event in China, was held from March 3 to March 17, 2013. The National People's Congress (NPC), China's legislature, and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), a national advisory body of mostly non-Communist delegates, discussed and voted on major issues and legislation. The 2013 Lianghui is particularly important because it witnessed the transition of China's leadership with Xi Jinping elected as Chinese President and Li Keqiang as Premier. [photo / Xinhua]
