SUC Guidelines for Sustainable Cities, Communities and Pilot Template Planning

Sustainable Urban Development and Livable Garden Community-China Programme” (SUC) is an effective demonstration project launched by the UNEP for the very first time focusing on the developing countries.

• UNEP will set up an international panel of experts to officially launch development of “Guidelines for Sustainable Cities and Communities”. From April to May 2015, simple guiding principles of the two Guidelines will be completed; In December 2017, full Guidelines and specific principles will be introduced.

• UNEP expert panel, headquartered in Paris, will dispatch international experts to directly work in China; JCCN is responsible for SUC’s implementation in China and organization of Chinese expert panel and high-profile executive teams. Currently, a high standard international consultancy team has been established;

• According to the Guidelines, representatives of Chinese cities and competent enterprises are selected as SUC’s cooperative partners. The first international pilot templates of “sustainable cities and communities” will be built, followed by a three-year training derived from the international expert panel. No more than three cooperative cities and three enterprises in China will be selected respectively. The three pilot cities and three pilot communities will be selected from the partnership institutions.

• UNEP will establish a special column for SUC with linkage to its official website to share information about programme progress constantly;

• SUC workshop and forum will be held at the end of the year on yearly basis in order to summarize annual experience, share practices and promote all goals and concepts of sustainable development at city and community levels.
