The Zambian government has signed 104.1-million-U.S.-dollar loan and grant agreement with Denmark to support the country's water and sanitation services, state news agency reported on Wednesday.

Under the deal, the Nordea Bank of Denmark provides a loan facility of 70.1 million dollars while the Danish Agency for International Development contributes a grant of 34 million dollars, according to the Zambia News and Information Service.

Alexander Chikwanda, Zambia's finance minister, said the project is aimed at improving the provision of clean water and sanitation in areas where the water and sanitation facilities are either non-existent or in a dilapidated state.

The project, he said, would benefit about 100,000 people in the Copperbelt province and showed the government's commitment to improving the provision of clean water and sanitation services.

The funds will be channeled to a company that provides water and sanitation services in the province, the Kafubu Water and Sewerage Company Limited, the report said. Endite
