179 cities release real-time air quality data

The Atmospheric Pollution Investigation Phase II Report, a report aiming to analyze and evaluate the current air quality information in China, was released on Tuesday in Beijing.
This report is jointly issued by The Institute of Public and Environmental Affairs (IPE), in conjunction with the Renmin University Institute of Environment and Planning, the SEE Foundation, Friends of Nature, Envirofriends and Nature University.
According to the report, as of January 2, 2014, 179 cities were releasing their real-time air quality information. Residents of these cities can use their computers, and even their smart phones, to understand all the air quality information available.
“The real time release highlights how serious the air pollution problem is,” said Director of IPE Ma Jun, “the PM 2.5 data in Xingtai City last December once exceeded 1,000 ug/m3.”
“There are already so many provinces releasing real-time pollution data; this has never before been seen anywhere in the world,” he added.
