Hu Yongqin is 48-years-old and has a senior middle school education. Hu hails from Xinbing Manchu Autonomous Region of northeastern China’s Liaoning Province.

Agriculture cultivation used to be the main source of income for Hu's family, but was insufficient to properly provide for her loved ones. In 2003, a fire broke out and made their lives even more difficult. Hu became determined to buy Chinese herbal medicines and go into business for herself.

A loan officer from the Support Service Center of the Poor introduced her to a micro credit loan program. Hu took her first step by applying for a loan of 2,000 yuan. Her processed Chinese herbal medicines sold well in the provincial capital.

Hu applied for another loan of 3,500 yuan in 2004 and increased her production volume. In 2006 her net income reached 25,000 yuan.

Hu Yongqin is not satisfied with her current level of success. She plans to explore further markets and develop her business through the help of micro credit loans.
