Yang Yanjun is 38 years old and has junior middle school education, and hails from Kouze Village, Licheng Township in Zuoquan County of Shanxi Province.

Yang suffers from back problems, which makes his life more difficult than others. Yang used to farm five mu of land before coming upon the idea of raising pigs.

He was worried about finding the funds to raising pigs before micro credits were introduced to his village. Yang applied for his first loan and bought four piglets and some walnut saplings and earned 3,000 yuan by later selling the four pigs in May of 2004.

Yang applied for another 2,000 yuan micro credit loan later that year and built a house at the edge of the village in order to sell small goods. Yang earned a net income of 10,000 yuan by the end of 2004.

In 2006, Yang Yanjun received a third loan of 3,000 yuan and contacted the Supplying and Marketing Cooperative in his village to become a cement distributor.

Yang now has four employees, two trucks and fixed assets of 58,000 yuan, with an annual net income of 80,000 yuan. Yan plans to open another store in a nearby township. He hopes to encourage more people to apply for the micro credit program.
