Fighters Against Poverty in 2018

2018 is a crucial year in the fight against poverty. Poverty fighters have worked hard with wisdom and passion, strove ahead with full energy and pursued a better life.

Dongchuan District is one of the poverty-stricken districts and counties listed at the national level. Its Tuobuka town, located in the deep mountains, has a high percentage of poor population and is a tough nut to crack in the district’s campaign against poverty. But in recent years, five women in the town have become leaders on the road of poverty alleviation. Xu Qing cultivates pitaya in wastelands, generating job opportunities and increasing income for more than 30 households in Dahuangdi village. Ma Guanqin raises camellia chickens, helping more than 1,000 poor families to earn more and get rid of poverty. Chen Yinglan who works for the poverty alleviation office in the town, leads the villagers to plant roselle. Liu Rongjin introduces 5,000 bamboo rats into Tuobuka from her hometown, exploring new industries to enrich local people.
