Singapore stocks close 0.79 pct higher

SINGAPORE, March 27 (Xinhua) -- Singapore stocks closed higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) going up 0.79 percent or 26.89 points to close at 3,439.35.

A total of 1.23 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 1.24 billion Singapore dollars (about 953.8 million U.S. dollars). Gainers outnumbered losers by 229 to 161.

The STI index closed down 0.26 percent or 8.93 points to close at 3,412.46 Monday. Enditem
