LUSAKA, March 27 (Xinhua) -- The following are news highlights in Zambia's major media outlets on Tuesday.
-- The Zambian government has differed with trade unions leaders on government's scheme to silence the labor movement through de-registration.
While Minister of Labor and Social Security Joyce Simukoko said the government wanted a union movement that operated with integrity, Nkole Chishimba, the president of the Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU), said threats by the government to close down a number of trade unions for being vocal was a scheme to silence the trade union movement. -- The Zambian government said a motion by the main opposition party to impeach President Edgar Lungu will not jeopardize political dialogue being facilitated by the Commonwealth.
Minister of Justice Given Lubinda said the motion will not derail Lungu's desire to enhance dialogue and that the impeachment had no bearing on other governance matters in the country. (Zambia Daily Mail)
-- A former head of Zambia's state-run railway firm has sued the government for premature termination of his contract and is demanding full compensation.
Professor Clive Chirwa, who was managing director of Zambia Railways and was relieved of his duties on June 7, 2013 before the end of his contract, said he was retired in total disregard to his contract and that his contract specified that he was entitled to full payment in an event of premature termination of his job.
