Israel says no rockets were fired at its territory

JERUSALEM, March 25 (Xinhua) -- Israel's army said a fire that triggered its Iron Dome anti-rocket system on Sunday night was not due to rocket launching but machinegun firing in Gaza.

Earlier in the night, sirens were heard in several cities in southern Israel and a military spokesperson said that Iron Dome intercepted several rockets that were fired from Gaza towards Israel.

A later notice said no projectiles were fired at the Jewish state and the Iron Dome system was prompted by machinegun fire inside the besieged Palestinian enclave.

The fire was part of a military drill held by Hamas, the Palestinian Islamist group that runs Gaza. Enditem
