Israel's Iron Dome intercepts rocket barrage from Gaza

Xinhua,March 26, 2018 Adjust font size:

JERUSALEM, March 25 (Xinhua) -- Israel's Iron Dome anti-rocket system intercepted Sunday night a barrage of rockets fired from the Gaza Strip towards southern Israel, a military spokesperson said in a statement.

"Several projectiles were launched simultaneously towards the Regional Council of Ashkelon Coast," the spokesperson said. "All of them were successfully intercepted."

The spokesperson said that troops are still searching the area to see if some rockets hit Israeli territory.

Sirens were heard in several regions in the south, including Ashkelon, the southern city of Sderot, and the Regional Council of Sha'ar HaNegev in the Negev Desert.

No injuries or damage were immediately reported.

No organization immediately claimed responsibility for the launches.

The incident came amidst elevated tensions between Israel and the besieged Palestinian enclave.

On Friday, Palestinians in Gaza plan to start "marches of return" to the fence to protest the Israeli occupation and the 11-year blockade imposed on the Strip. Enditem
