Xinhua,December 27, 2017 Adjust font size:

CHICAGO, Dec. 26 (Xinhua) -- A snowstorm on the Christmas Eve has ushered Chicago into frigid weather and the condition may last until the New Year's weekend.

Dangerous wind chills and waves of light snow will shroud Chicago in U.S. state of Illinois this week.

Temperatures dropped to minus 17 Celsius degree on Christmas, then further dipped overnight. By 8 a.m. Tuesday, it was minus 19 Celsius degree at O'Hare International Airport, the city's official recording station, with a wind chill of minus 19.

The National Weather Service is warning of "excessive cold risk" at least until New Year's Day.

The coldest Christmas on record for Chicago was in 1983, when the low hit minus 27 Celsius degree. Enditem
