Xinhua,December 18, 2017 Adjust font size:

NEW DELHI, Dec. 18 (Xinhua) -- The counting of votes for recently held local elections in two Indian states of Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat began Monday morning amid tight security, officials said.

"Counting is on in Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat," an official said. "All arrangements are in place for smooth conduct of the counting."

According to officials, the process would take place within six to seven hours. However, the initial trends will be available after two hours of the counting.

India's election commission has made elaborate arrangements for providing online information of trends and results.

Exit polls have predicted ruling rightwing Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) would emerge as leading party in both the states. Enditem
