Xinhua,December 18, 2017 Adjust font size:

GAZA, Dec. 18 (Xinhua) -- Israeli warplanes on Sunday night struck with air-to-surface missiles targets that belong to militants in the Gaza Strip, eyewitnesses and security sources said.

Security sources said that Israeli war jets struck two military posts that belong to the militants of the Islamic Resistance Movement of Hamas in northern Gaza Strip, adding that severe damage was caused to the posts, but no injuries were reported.

Heavy explosions and buzzes of drones and warplanes were heard all over the Gaza Strip, according to residents of Gaza city.

The intensive Israeli airstrikes were in retaliation against earlier rocket attacks carried out from Gaza into southern Israel, according to the Israeli media.

No one has claimed responsibility for firing rockets into Israel. The rockets hit two Israeli houses, causing severe damage, but no injuries were reported, Israeli media reported.

Since U.S. President Donald Trump decided to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel on Dec. 6, tensions between Israelis and Palestinians have been escalating, leaving eight Palestinians killed and more than 2,000 injured. Enditem
