NAIROBI, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) -- The following are the news highlights in Kenyan media outlets on Friday.

-- President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday scoffed at calls for secession and warned that stern action will be taken against anyone threatening the country's peace and stability.

Opposition National Super Alliance has been pushing for parts of the country to break away and swear in their leader Raila Odinga as president, noting they would not recognize Kenyatta's win in controversial Oct. 26 polls. Some county assemblies aligned to the opposition have already passed a motion for the creation of People's Assembly, a move seen by the government as push for secession. (Daily Nation)

-- A landmark ruling made by the Supreme Court on Thursday could save a number of death-row inmates from hangman's noose. The judges declared unconstitutional the section of the penal code, which prescribed death sentence for any person convicted of murder. (The Standard)
