Czech President appoints new gov't headed by Babis

PRAGUE, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- Czech President Milos Zeman appointed on Wednesday the new government headed by Andrej Babis at Prague Castle.

The new government is comprised of 14 ministers, nine of whom are newcomers, and five are current ministers.

The 14 members of Babis's government are Environment Minister Richard Brabec, Transport Minister Dan Tok, Defence Minister Karla Slechtova, Justice Minister Robert Pelikan, Industry and Trade Minister Tomas Huner, Culture Minister Ilja Smid, Labor and Social Affairs Minister Jaroslava Nemcova, Education Minister Robert Plaga, Finance Minister Alena Schillerova, Foreign Minister Martin Stropnicky, Health Minister Adam Vojtech, Regional Development Minister Klara Dostalova, Interior Minister Lubomir Metnar, and Agriculture Minister Jiri Milek.

On the same day, Barbora Peterova became the spokeswoman for the newly appointed government, and Radek Augustin was appointed as new director of the Government Office.

The new government is scheduled to have its first meeting later on Wednesday.

The new government must ask the Chamber of Deputies for confidence within a month, but it has not a majority in the lower house. Zeman promised Babis that he would appoint him for the second time in case of failure. Enditem
