Newborn dies a week after leading private hospital in India wrongly declared him dead

NEW DELHI, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- A newborn baby, who was wrongly declared dead by doctors at a leading private hospital in Indian capital city last week, has died during treatment, officials said Wednesday.

"The newborn who was wrongly declared dead by doctors at Max Hospital has died due to infection and other medical problems," an official said. "The newly born was being treated at a clinic for a week after his parents found him alive despite being declared dead by doctors."

A panel formed by the Delhi government to look into the case on Tuesday found Max hospital guilty of not following prescribed medical norms in dealing with newborn infants.

The authorities at Max hospital have terminated services of two doctors in the case.

On Nov. 30, doctors at the hospital declared the 22-week-old premature baby dead and handed it over to their parents in a polythene bag along with his stillborn twin brother.

Meanwhile, Delhi police which has registered a case against the hospital is investigating the matter. Enditem
